Vitamins & nutrition

Some blood tests measure levels of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron and calcium. Whether you need them depends on your diet, health and symptoms. These tests don't diagnose anything on their own, and this isn't a recommendation to take any of them — a doctor decides which are relevant for you.

Vitamin D

A blood test that checks the level of vitamin D in your blood.

Vitamin B12

A blood test that measures how much vitamin B12 is in your blood.

Iron Studies

Blood tests that check the levels of iron in your body.

Calcium

A blood test used to check your general health and to help diagnose or monitor conditions affecting bones, kidneys, the digestive system, the thyroid and the parathyroid glands.

Ferritin Test

A blood test that measures ferritin, a protein that binds to iron and stores it in your body.

Speak with your doctor

Do not start high-dose supplements because of a symptom or a result without medical advice — too much can also cause problems.
